Emberfall Saga
Emberfall Saga is the kind of RPG that respects a mobile schedule. Battles are turn-based, so you can pause mid-fight, deal with real life, and come back without losing anything. The writing is better than it needs to be, with party members who bicker in ways that made me actually read the dialogue instead of skipping it.
Combat opens up slowly. Early on you're just picking attacks, but a few hours in you're juggling elemental weaknesses and positioning. The auto-battle option is there for grinding, which I appreciated, and it doesn't feel like the game is pushing you to use it constantly.
Battery-wise it's heavier than an arcade game, as you'd expect, but the menus and overworld are light. Most of the drain comes from the fully animated boss fights. I capped the frame rate at 30 for long sessions and barely noticed a difference.
What we liked
- Turn-based fights you can pause anytime
- Characters worth caring about
- Auto-battle for grinding without pressure
