Why Your Phone Gets Hot And What To Do
If the back of your phone is warm after a gaming session, that's not normal wear, it's a signal. The processor is working flat out, and that heat comes straight out of your battery and your frame rate. Left alone, the phone will throttle itself and the game will stutter.
The biggest culprits are high frame rates, maxed graphics, and heavy particle effects. Racing games and action titles hit hardest because they push constant motion. I've measured a racer drain nearly twice as fast on high settings versus medium, for a visual difference you barely notice on a small screen.
The fix is almost always in the settings. Cap the frame rate, drop to medium graphics, and turn down effects. Take your phone out of its case during long sessions so heat can escape. And don't game while charging if you can help it, since that's a double dose of heat.
It's worth saying that a well-optimized game shouldn't cook your phone in the first place. When we review something, heat and battery drain go in the notes, because a game that leaves your phone hot and your battery at twenty percent isn't one you'll keep playing.
